The Grey Man

The Grey Man

My friend Mark Garbowski is an attorney and photographer from New York City.  For years Mark has been making self portraits in a really fun outfit and publishing them on his blog. The series is monochrome, which means it’s all black and white.

The Grey Man is this mysterious man who walks through the streets of New York City.

Recently while on a big photo trip with a group of friends, Mark put on the outfit to make his next Grey Man photo.  We were photographing a lighthouse in the mist and fog on a super rainy day.

So I made this photograph, asking Mark to look out at the lighthouse.

I thought this was an appropriate Grey Man photo as Mark was setting himself up for his self portrait.  His tripod was ready to go and his bag was resting nicely on the rocks.
