Avoiding The Weaker Position

When it comes to avoiding the clash, there is something to always keep in the back of your mind.

The weak position of photography, is that angle not providing the cliche wow factor.

“This picture shows two combatants in the mist of “Kumiuchi” (Grappling). The karateka on the left has avoided and grabbed his opponent’s punch and is attempting to turn it into an arm bar. The other karateka is desperately trying to turn the situation around by trying to maneuver his opponent to to a weaker position.”

When it comes time for you to step it up and create photographs with that magical punch, remember to move around.  Find the strong position.  The one that screams “awesome” above the crowd.  The one that makes people look closer.  The one that brings smiles to every person who looks at it.

Find the strong position and love what you’re doing – photographing something special.

Have you ever missed the strong position?  Do you often find yourself in the weak position?

Thanks for reading and happy shooting,

Scott
