I recently shared photographs of two New Jersey bands that were very difficult to photograph due to their lighting choices. Owel and Gates are both fantastic bands that I was happy to see in person and listen to. However, I was not at the show to see them. I was actually there to see Penfold reunite again. Penfold is another New Jersey band that I grew up listening to and going to see on practically a weekly basis.
Their music is relaxing and energetic, inspiring and simply amazing.
Unlike Owel and Gates, Penfold decided to take more advantage of the stage lighting so I had some front light to work with.
This photograph was captured at 70mm and a shutter speed of 1/80 and an aperture of f/2.8 which creates that shallow depth of field where he is partially in focus.
If you’d like to listen to Penfold, please visit the Penfold website or listen to Penfold Radio on iTunes.
Thanks for reading and happy shooting,
Scott
Penfold released a song right before they broke up (around 2002-03). I don’t remember the name of the song, but I was wondering if you might know, or if you might know of a way to get in touch with a band member to find out.
Could it be the song Twenty-Three? It was never recorded, but they always played it live.
You can send the guys a message through their Facebook page. That’s probably the best route.
