Gates

I recently shared a photograph that was difficult to capture, of the band Owel from New Jersey.

I mentioned that their lighting consisted of backlight and very little front light.  I also mentioned another band, Gates, that was all backlight and no front light.

Talk about a tricky situation.

To capture this photograph I had to bump up my ISO to the Nikon D800’s limits.  My shutter was slightly too long at 1/50 which made it difficult to capture a crisp still with the 85mm focal length.  However, I got the job done and the backlit photograph is awesome.  You can see one of the bulbs peaking through between the singer and bassist.

If you’re into indie bands I definitely recommend trying to see Gates when they’re playing near you.  Visit the Gates website and listen to their music.
