Ai Photo Culling with AfterShoot

Abstract text design stating "Use Imagen Instead.

Note: Yes, I named AfterShoot’s mascots Cully and Eddy, and yes, I work for their competitor Imagen. Even if I did not work for Imagen, I would not be recommending AfterShoot to anyone for so many reasons.

In this video, I look at another Ai Photo Culling system called AfterShoot. Like others on the market, Ai Photo Culling can save you hours of time for every photo session. I share my thoughts on AfterShoot, and show you, in real-time, how it culls through over 300 photos. I also show a side-by-side of culling the same photo session in Optyx 2.

Look, photographers are constantly looking for ways to save time in their workflows, whether that’s keywording editing, sending work from a Lightroom to their websites, writing blog, content posting from social media, whatever it might be. One of the biggest things photographers are looking to save time with is calling. Yes, the dreaded C-word calling. It’s a nightmare for so many. It’s that one thing that that just takes so much time is especially when you have thousands of photographs to go through wedding photographers, for example, might have four or 5,000 photos to go through from a wedding between themselves and their associate photographers or whoever it might be. Now in recent years, AI based software has come to the industry to save time. And the things that I mentioned a little earlier, artificial intelligence, isn’t new to the tech world, but it has grown so large over the years and it’s getting smarter every day.

But the one I want to talk about today is using AI to call your photos and to save you hours of time, calling through 300 photos, using an AI tool can save you about 30 minutes. That’s 30 more minutes you can spend with family meditating working out or working on something else in your business, like booking the next client. So let’s go over this. The software that I’m going to talk about today is unlike another one I talked about in a previous video. Well, it’s like it end. It’s not like it because it does a little bit more after shoot is the one I’m going to talk about right now. It’s one of the newer AI calling tools on the block, and it’s aiming for great Heights with its current features and its roadmap. This software is built by people who really know AI very well, and they have a team of photographers on board who know the photography industry equally.

This combination makes for a rocket ready for deep space exploration, or simply a fantastic product to see if you some sanity. So here’s how after shoot works. Once you are set up with actors, you do import a folder of your fresh, raw files or a JPEG files. And in my example, that I’m going to talking about is importing. And you’ll see actually is importing 300 photos from a surprise proposal photography session. Actually it’s more than 300 photos after shoots. AI will then crawl through the photos in a couple of minutes, identifying important aspects like sharpness, eyes, smiles, highlights, shadows, and so much more. Once it’s complete after shoot, we’ll assign colors and star ratings to your photos based on its findings, each of which you can override as you want, it’ll sort, you know, hide, duplicate, which you can choose from if you want to choose which duplicate you prefer, but it’s going to basically give ratings with selections, right?

The ones that it actually says are useful sneak peaks, which is fantastic for weddings or headshots duplicates. So photos that are super similar to each other, blurred photos and photos with closed eyes. And then there’ll be some with warnings, like do not use this at all. This software is designed to be your starting point and not a side tool to your existing workflow, meaning you could import, or you would import rather do after shoot, let it call and then import the results with its sidecar files into Lightroom or capture one. My one and only complaint with after shoot, which I have voiced to them and is working smoother with people’s existing workflows, basically to have a Lightroom plugin or even a capture one plugin that allows you to export existing files in your catalog, into after shoots. Instead of going from after shoot to light run recapture one, then have after shoot Cole and send the result back to your catalog.

This is what after shoots competitor optics does. Now I understand that a light replug is underway. So hopefully that’s happening sooner than later. And hopefully that’s the workflow that they’re going with for making it so that you don’t have to adjust your workflow to what after she wanted to do, but rather what already works for yourself. Now earlier, I mentioned that AI calling 300 photos would save you about 30 minutes. What’s really cool is that when after shoots calling session is complete, you will actually receive an email from their system telling you exactly how much time was saved. And that’s really fun to see. So who is AI calling for? This is tricky because typically AI tools whose purpose is calling is best used for people. So weddings, portraits, street photos, headshots engagement, proposals, seniors, newborns, all examples of people who would do well with it.

But at the same time, it does work for landscapes and products and other things like that. However, software like after shoot is best. When a face is visible, that’s not to say that an option for people less coaling might come in the future. So you’re about to see a video, a side-by-side of the same photo session, this proposal session doing coaling through after shoot and in optics to now it’s worth noting that in the past, I’ve used the original version optics one, we’ll call it for calling for AI based calling. I used it for over a year at this point and version two is enhanced and has more features like what after shoot offers, including face recognition. And this was actually the first time that I used optics two. So you’re going to see that there were some prompts because of the first time I opened it, but you’ll also see that it actually called faster than after shoot. But with that said, I’m actually going to be switching to after shoot. But I want you to see the side-by-side of the process between the two, what went faster, what is different and things like that. The user experience between the two. So let’s flip over to the computer and you can see the side by side

So, as I mentioned in the past, I’ve used optics for countless photo sessions, but after chatting with some of the after shoot team, I am a convert. I love what they’re doing, the direction they’re headed and their passion for helping photographers with their overall workflows after shoot is about saving photographers time. Think about that for photographers who photograph people, the sneak peek feature will come in handy. I use it for a proposal session and shared one of the five sneak peeks after she recommended the clients cried and said they couldn’t wait for more. So how do you get after shoots? It’s available for Mac and windows? And from what I hear an iPad version and our an iPad app might be a supplement is coming soon. So head over to [inaudible] dot com, sign up for the trial, take it for a spin with a small photo session or a large one. See how much time it saves you. So you can get back to hanging out with your family. Thanks.
