What was once a Canon EOS 5D now a lesson learned

Please note: this is NOT my camera

This 5D was sent in for repair stating there was a power problem.  There is a good reason why there were such problems.  I have never seen such bad corrosion inside of a camera before.  I have seen outside casings pretty bad but this camera has seen better days.   This should be a lesson to all photographers.  No matter how much the manufacturers tell you that your gear is waterproof, and even if they are right, don’t believe them.  Make yourself protect your gear even though ‘the man’ says you don’t have to.  This is one expensive lesson to be learned for camera owners.

$3000 Camera now worth nothing because every electronic board inside is corroded.

    That is a SHAME!

I wonder what they did – was it taken underwater? Into the rain? Left on the trunk while they went through the car wash?

I didn’t even know the 5D was SUPPOSED to be waterproof?! *looks at own 5D lovingly, caressing it while mentioning it shall never be bathed…*

The 5D isn’t supposed to be waterproof, but they say it has weather seals. I don’t know what this person did but that is really bad. I’ve never seen a pro Canon body with such horrible corrosion.

Scott, I’m pretty sure the original 5D had no weather sealing. Its only the 5D MKII that has weather sealing…and they clearly state that its not waterproof.

I know it is not waterproof. My statement was general. Now that a lot of ‘Waterproof’ cameras are coming out people need to be aware that even cameras stated to be waterproof are vulnerable to damage like this.

Why would Canon release a pro body without any weather seals is beyond me.

Note, this is not my camera. I shoot Nikon

Doesn't suprise me you are a Nikon shooter… This cam isn't waterproof at al, not even wheater sealings (and they don't claim it either). This cam just felt into the waterand was completely drowned. A nikon would look the same if you did that to a cam…

Any camera would look like this. That's my point. The only way for a camera to survive water is for it to be a true waterproof camera.
