Waiting Game

Sometimes when you are taking a tour of a location, like at Eastern State Penitentiary, you can be faced with the tough situation of either a time crunch or too many people getting in your way.

It happens a lot.

To deal with that challenge, my recommendation is to prepare your camera for the photograph you want to take while the tour guide is speaking. Typically you won’t be taking pictures during this time because it could interrupt the guide or distract other tourists from listening.

So here is what I would say to do.

  1. Find your spot
  2. Frame your shot
  3. Gather your exposure
  4. Prepare your focus

Then when the time is right and people start walking away, take your photograph.

By preparing ahead of time, you won’t miss out on possible important parts of the tour.

Thanks for reading and happy shooting,

Scott
