Yesterday I went to Princeton, New Jersey and watched/photographed a couple Ultimate Frisbee games. There was a tournament going on and teams from many colleges were playing. Princeton, Rowan, Ramapo, Rutgers, Temple, Hofstra and others. I went knowing that I’d be standing the entire time and that the players would be all over the place, and at great distances. With that, I grabbed my 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 VR lens. Usually for sports I’d use my 70-200 f/2.8 VR II lens, but for this event I know it wouldn’t work for what I needed.
For this weeks Project 52 I decided to share these two photos because they really explain how difficult Ultimate Frisbee is. Pictures can create an amazing story.
Thanks for reading and happy shooting,
Scott

6 Nov 2011Nice shots! Do you play Ultimate? I have tried shooting some ultimate games, without a lot of luck; and being as an ultimate player myself, I find I watch the game with a players eye and not a photographers eye. I should try it again because there are some great opportunities for action shots, like the ones you captured here.

6 Nov 2011Hi WIll,
I’ve watched many games, but never played. I’m great at catching a frisbee but not so good at throwing one.
