Working with movement and lights at night is so much fun. In fact, it’s one of my photography techniques things to experiment with.
For this photo, I was at the Monmouth County Fair in Freehold, NJ – the same night as I shot the Fireworks series.
I was walking around the fair with the Leica M9, 50mm lens, tripod and cable release. I noticed this scene and set up shop in the middle of a big crowd of people. Of course, I knew I wanted a long exposure so didn’t worry about the people. That would just add to the fun.
This was roughly a one minute exposure, providing enough time for some people to be blurred, some to be still and the lights to pop off the night sky.
I have some other fun night fair shots coming soon, but until then…
Thanks for reading and happy shooting,
Scott
