Poll – My New Photography Logo

I’m not a professional designer but I know I am pretty good at designing in Photoshop.  I’ve never been designing for myself which is why I am so grateful for meeting so many great designers on Twitter who give me their input on things.  I came up with this design for my photography ‘business’ Scott Wyden Imagery.  Please give me your opinions on it, vote yes or no and leave some comments or suggestions.  The poll closes on January 18th at 1900 hours so please spread it around the web fast so I get as many opinions as possible.

Thanks for reading and voting

Scott

*keep in mind that the SWI in the logo stand for Scott Wyden Imagery*

a variation of the logo.  please comment with your thoughts

    Okay, I'll talk :)

The logo looks a little unbalanced to me. I like the style and color, but the W overpowers the S a bit too much IMHO.

That is part of the problem. Getting the S to stand out and flow more

    Thanks for the comment!

Sorry, had to give it a no. Not sure what it is, but I was immediately reminded of the twitter logo (the birdie looking ones) when I saw it.

Thanks for the feedback Joseph! If it reminded you of the Twitter logo that is good and bad…

Bad because it reminds you of something else

Good because it means it has a modern look to it

Sorry, just not liking the "s" so much. I think the conflicting leading is killing it a bit.

And as for twitter association – to me, not a good thing…
It also leads my mind to the logo for Juice (http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/). But I may be tainted as I see tons of logos daily as do many, hence the need to stand out, which is darn difficult these days.

Look no further than walmart's re-branding exercise. http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archiv…

I agree with others are saying. unbalanced, the “s” not working, no contrast or “pizazz” to make it memorable. It doesn’t scream “great photography” to me. It is hard to brand yourself with a logo (I’m still trying!), either keep at it, or I highly suggest you have it done by someone else.

As far as pizazz goes, this is a basic design.. There is much that can be done from a basic design like shadowing and such. It doesn’t scream photography but besides from the cliche shutter logo there isn’t much that screams photography that I’ve seen.

As for paying someone design it for me…I don’t want to do it as my photography is a side thing and not what I do for a living. I’d rather take the time finding the perfect logo for me.

Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.
