See A Color Palette Before You Make A Photo

See A Color Palette Before You Make A Photo

The topic of vision is one of popularity and obscurity. What I mean by that is so many people talk about vision. Having vision. Finding vision and so on.

But at the same time, vision is such an obscure topic because no one has the same vision and no one can explain what “having vision” is all about.

In fact, I even created a small course call Vision Path, which is more about finding your style and building upon it.

I bring this up because maybe vision is seeing your final work ahead of time. Even before you push the shutter button. Maybe even before you frame the camera.

See A Color Palette Before You Make A Photo

The photograph you see here is from Wyoming during my Grand Teton National Park trip. The colors of the day at the time were soft but vibrant.

What I saw on this day were pastel colors across the scene. The water, the trees, the mountains and sky. All pastel. All faint but vibrant.

Once I opened this photograph in Lightroom, I knew what I had to do.  I knew the photo had to be on the cooler side, but a boost in blues, yellows, and greens.

All of that came from experience. All of it came from my vision. All of it came from seeing the color palette before making the photo.
