Charlotte Journal #4

Yesterday morning we all got up pretty early and drove up to Chimney Rock, NC to drive up to the famous Chimney Rock which overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We got up the 3 mile curvy road to see that tickets are $14 a person.  That was crazy so we walked around a bit to stretch are legs.  We found out that Dirty Dancing was also filmed at a lake we passed on the way up.

We continued our journey up to Asheville to see the Biltmore estates.  When we arrived we found out that although the house closes at 3PM they won’t kick you out until 5:30PM.  We did the self tour and saw some amazing rooms.  Biltmore is the largest estate in the world and has been since it was built in the 1800’s.  It was built my George Washington Vanderbuilt and is over 8000 acres of land.  The drive from the Biltmore house to the Biltmore Winery alone was 4 miles, and well worth it.  The tour of the winery was so so but we tasted some interesting wines and purchased our favorites.

After our tours we went across the street from the estate’s entrance to the worlds most expensive McDonalds.  The cost of the food isn’t more, but the cost to build the place was.  This McDonalds has a double fireplace, a waterfall and a baby grand piano that plays itself.  It is really really nice.  How could we not stop there right?

Today we are visiting a living museum called Latta Plantation and then relaxing before heading to the airport.  Our vacation is soon over.
