This Side Of The Walls

this-side-of-walls

I love Eastern State Penitentiary.  It’s such an amazing place. This photograph was taken extremely close to the wall with the aperture wide open.  I wanted to emphasize just how big the walls are, and how huge the prison itself is.  I believe I achieved the goal. Thanks for reading and happy shooting, Scott

Eastern State Penitentiary Mood

Nikon D3, ISO 100, 17mm, f/8, 5 Exposures

If you ever go to Philly and happen to stay near the Eastern State Penitentiary, make sure you get up early. *cough* 5/6am to get in some early morning brackets. It was so fun! This shot was taken in April of 2008 at exactly 5:22 am. Andrew and I were staying at a friends, we [...]

Open Cell Seven – Eastern State Penitentiary

Nikon D700, 9 Exposures, f/2.8, 70mm, ISO 100

My first HDR I processed from yesterday’s Photographer Meetup at Eastern State Penitentiary.  I had a great time, met and chatted with really nice people.  After a lot of talking on Twitter and Facebook, I finally met CJ, Comcast Steve, D. Travis and many other great people.  There is a set of brackets I will [...]

Nikon D700, f/5 @ 175 mm, 1/8, ISO 100

Today was the first time I walked around Eastern State Penitentiary with a zoom lens.  Typically I will use a wide or standard zoom lens but this time I spent some time with the 70-200.

Tip: Do what you can to get the shot

A couple years ago after a trip to Eastern State Penitentiary, Andrew, Courtney and I were driving to historic Philly to experience the typical tourist things.  Every time we drive down to ESP we pass this building.  Of course, it is really neat architecture but we never have a chance to stop.   This time [...]

Photographer Meetup at Eastern State Penitentiary

_SWK3765_66_67_68_69_70_71_tonemapped

The Meetup I decided to host a meetup at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly. Why? Well, why not? Eastern State is an amazing place. There is so much to photograph there. You can try Macro, HDR, Wide angle or any other type of photography inside the walls. Eastern State has strict rules about photography but [...]

Photoshop CS5 lens correction & some content aware healing

straps1.jpg

I had some time to play with the new Photoshop CS5 lens correction tool. I used a photo from Eastern State Penitentiary which was shot using a Nikon D3 and 14-24mm lens at 14mm. The lens correction is subtle on that lens but you can still see a huge difference. After correcting for the distortion [...]

Inspired by Brian Matiash‘s photo of the day I decided to rework an old set of brackets shot in Eastern State Penitentiary. This was done with 9 exposures and merged into an HDR using Photomatix 3.2.8 (you can get 15% Photomatix using “ScottWyden15″) I love that place! View this photo larger on Flickr Thanks for [...]

Philly Ally HDR

Photograph from an ally in Philadelphia, PA. Such a colorful scene! I didn’t have a tripod with me so I had to handhold this shot, but fortunately I have pretty steady hands when holding a camera. Crazy how some things come naturally, don’t you think? When I hold a pen my hands are not steady. [...]

9 Exposure HDR at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly.  I love going to the prison/museum as you always see something new.  If you are a photographer and have never been there, make sure you schedule a trip soon!

Center City Photowalk – Philadelphia, PA

Melissa, Andrew, Courtney and I signed up for Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk for July 18th, 2009.  Last year we walked in Baltimore, but this year we decided to walk in Philly so our friend Danyo can join us as he is trying to get more into photography. For those who would like to join the [...]
