Recreating a photo from May 1946

Recently while looking through an album from Melissa’s grandmother we found the photo above which was taken in May of 1946. We knew it was from Washington DC and at some monument but we were not sure exactly which. During our recent trip to Washington DC we were determined to find the site and recreate it. After a lot of walking and searching we found the place. It was the back of the Lincoln Memorial. Below you can see what we recreated.

Keep in mind that the camera that was used in the original was most likely some sort of fixed focal length but no way to know which. Armed with my Nikon 24-70mm lens I got as close as I could to the original. Even though the perspective is slightly off we had fun doing it and are happy that we were able to do it.

Thanks for reading and happy shooting,
Scott
