Please give me your thoughts on this subject

For years I have been using the name Scott Wyden Imagery for my photography. I have always verbally instructed and included “Please make checks payable to Scott Kivowitz” on each invoice. So many times people with either write the check to Scott Wyden or Scott Wyden Imagery making it useless and then more time is wasted waiting for a new check to arrive. Do you think I should chance the name of my website to Scott Wyden Kivowitz – Photographer ??

Ask your bank if you can have a DBA name added to you account then you can accept either and maintain the consistency of your brand.

You have a DBA under a persons name?

Hey Scott! I'm have a similar problem. “Sno” as always been my creative name…I've never used my real last name. So on the check thing, I feel your pain on the waiting game! It also sucks having to explain it EVERYTIME. I was seriously thinking about changing my name… But you dont have that problem since Wyden is already your middle name. I'm not sure how it works with banks, but I've seen my mother who goes by Susie but her name is Jesusa just show them a business card and DL… since then, they have accepted her checks as Susie. If anything, I was thinking about talking to my bank about just opening up a business account under David Sno and paying myself and contracted help through that account..helps keep everything on record as well. Just a thought. I'd say as long as it doesn't hurt potential clients or SEO… maybe the small trade off with the name “change” could save a lot of headache later.

Thanks for your input David. The funny part is if people read the invoice i'd never have this problem :-)
