Photography Exhibit Preparation In Four Steps

photography exhibit

Have a photography exhibit in the works and need advice?  Then you are in the right place.  This guest article from Bethaney, provides simple advice for photographers needing guidance on where to start preparing.

For many photographers, landing an upcoming photography exhibit is the event they have been waiting for. (Or the event they’ve been waiting for again, and again.) Whether a themed show, seasonal, or just an event that just showcases your best work, exhibits are something to get excited about. Even the photographs get dressed up, opting for large prints and fancy frames vs. their usual digital and computerized versions. Whether it’s your first or your 21st, photography exhibits are an event worth celebrating. (Come on, even the most experienced photographer can’t say no to a room of their best pictures, especially when it’s full of impressed gawkers.)

However, just because something is good for your career doesn’t mean it’s any less work to tackle. There’s marketing, set up time, scheduling, and more – all of which has to be completed before the photography exhibit can take place.

To help make the most of your efforts, be sure to stay organized every step of the way. And if you need a little help, no worries. Check out this guide to help keep yourself on track.

Photography Exhibit Preparation Steps

Planning

Before getting started, now is the time to consider all the basics. Where do you want your photography exhibit to take place? Or if you were asked, are you comfortable with the location? How many photos will you showcase? What is your photography exhibit theme? How long will it take you to get ready? While this may seem like an overwhelming amount of questions, it’s the best way to put all your ducks in a row. Consult the help of friends and family – especially a fellow photographer to help through the planning stages.

Prints and Frames

At this point you’ll want to begin showcasing your best work. Decide what sizes will be shown, and pick out flattering frames for each featured piece. This is also the time to have multiple prints made. Whether or not you wish to frame or matte for-sale items, be sure to provide quality, desirable prints for potential customers.

Advertising

Next let others know when your photography exhibit will take place. While the location will likely do some marketing of their own, it’s also up to you to spread the word. Besides, the more people who know about the event, the more people that will be likely to show up. Post on your website, use social media, print flyers, contact local newspapers, tell all your friends, and more. Whatever steps you can think of to advertise your show, do it.

Opening Night

Now all that’s left is to set up, impress others, and sell your work. Sure this sounds like a lot, but in reality, the hard parts are done. In whatever form you choose to take these steps, follow a design and method that best reflects your work. This show is all about your photos, who will know how to present them better than their creator?

Planning a photography exhibit takes time and dedication, but by taking the necessary steps, it’s one that any photographer can look forward to time and time again. Remember to do what feels right and you’ll be on your way to a thriving, well-planned show.
