If your friend or family member is a photographer, and either starting a photography business or continuing it during the holiday season, then you’re in the right place. Below are what I believe are essential gifts for a photography business.

Photography Business Gifts

If you have questions about any of the products and services mentioned below, please comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

on1

I love this software, and have no doubt it makes a fantastic gift. I’ve written about the on1 Photo RAW many times here on my blog. So instead of getting into too much detail here, visit the article, The Best Photo Editing Software Available.

  • Single or bundle of software

Drobo

On-site backups are important elements of a photography business. Drobo enables a photographer to create four to five backups in one shot. In addition, the hardware can heal itself if one of the hard drives fails.

On-site backups are one step of a photographer’s backup workflow. There are a variety of Drobo options available, so check them out at Amazon for the best deals.

BackBlaze

The other half of the backup workflow is off-site storage. I have tried them all, but one stands above the rest. BackBlaze is a fantastic service that also gives back to the community and environment. I have used SmugMug, JungleDisk, Amazon S3 and Mozy. All of which have their flaws. BackBlaze was super fast even with many terabytes of storage and the price is right.

The best part of the service, is that after the initial backup, you don’t notice that it’s running and keeping photographs safe.

Photojojo

Photojojo still holds a place in my heart for amazing photography gifts. I have written about in the past, in an article called The Best Photography Gifts For Any Photographer. It’s still true to this day. Their product selection has grown, but continue to be wonderful gift options for any photographer.

Business Books

Photographers are always looking for ways to improve their business. Visit the home or studio of the photography business in question and see which books they have. Then take a look at my list of essential business books for photographers and pick up a couple as a gift.

Color Correction

Photographers do a lot of post processing, and it’s important for color to be spot on. The best color calibration tools are the ColorChecker Passport and ColorMunki. Fortunately, X-Rite has bundled the products together.

The products separate cost $450 and $99, which means you save $50 by picking up the bundle. You can grab it from Amazon.

Invoicing

No business can be complete without invoicing. There are a lot of options out there, but I favor and prefer Pancake App. You pay once, host it yourself, and can even deliver photos upon payment.

Read about Pancake App in the article, Photographer Invoicing Software With Pancakes.

Contracts & More

To conclude this list of essential photography business gifts, below are some additional resources where you can purchase contracts, templates and more.

There is always the gift of education too. Here are some amazing educational eBooks and classes that you can gift to a photographer:

Thanks for reading and happy gift picking,

Scott
