nothing-warm-can-stay

gps4cam Pro from Michael Diguet is a fantastic tool for geotagging your photographs. The beauty of this app, is that for a low price of $3.99 you can geotag photographs from any camera.

Here is what you do:

  1. Launch gps4cam
  2. Sync Dropbox for a better experience & backup
  3. Select your accuracy choice
  4. Start an event
  5. Shoot to your hearts desire
  6. When complete, stop the event and photograph the on-screen QR code as a JPG (not RAW!)
  7. Import your photographs to your computer (not to a photo software like Lightroom or Aperture)
  8. Run the photos through gps4cam on your computer
  9. When complete, import the RAW files to your photo editing software of choice
  10. Enjoy your geotagged photographs

For detailed instructions, visit the official gps4cam website

You can see a final result in this photograph. To see the geotagged version, visit it on Google Plus, 500px and Flickr.

Update: July 15, 2013 – The gps4cam team has verified the difference between the regular and pro app. The pro version lets you link to Dropbox and have only 1 generated QR Code no matter how long was your trip while in gps4cam might 2, 10 or 20 QR codes depending on how long your trip is. To read more on the differences, visit the gps4cam pro additional characteristics section on their website.

Thanks for reading and happy shooting,
Scott

  1. I’ve been using GPS4cam for a little over a year. I often forget to enable before starting out on my trek so sometimes I update the GPS data via the mapping feature in LR4.

  2. No support for this product and hasn’t been updated for 2 YEARS.
The app basically freezes after launch and the only way to get out of it is to force quit the app……so it does NOT work on properly on iPhone 6S+ using iOS 10.

I would advise not to buy until updated to work with current phones.

  3. I am also using an iPhone 6 Plus iOS 10 the app has Bernini for 6 hours and. I cannot pause or get a qc code. Same thing yesterday and to reboot the phone and lost all the data
    Not at all happy

      1. Its clear they are no longer supporting or updating this app. Too bad as it is by far the best choice when changing time zones on a trip. I found a workaround with current IOS on iPhone 6S. Start trip per instructions. The screen freezes at that point but it keeps recording. When done with trip, swipe out of app, then re-open. The trip will show as “Paused.” Hit that button and QR code will be generated with no loss of data. At least for me.

  4. I get an error regarding the Dropbox sync, that says it may not work until the developer updates. There apparently has not been an update, so the app generates an error that it cannot access Dropbox, even though it shows it as connected. No response from support and email gets bounced back to me as undeliverable.

Too bad, as this is a very nice app, when it worked.

  5. gps4cam seems to be abandonware now, alas. I am trying out Geotag Photos Pro 2 as an alternative, and thus far I like it.

  6. I’m afraid I haven’t had a good experience with Geotag Photos. The concept is great: the track log stops if you haven’t moved a certain amount. BUT, the pauses in the track log lead to Geotag Photos geocoding some images far away from their actual location (I’ve seen it off by as much as 1/2 mile.
