Destruction & Beauty

Living near farms has its perks.  I can go on a 3 mile photowalk and see something new, or see the same thing in a different way.

Months ago I heard about an old house with a beautiful tree on the outskirts of a local park.  So I decided to take a drive over to check it out.

The house is about a half mile from the main road, and no cars are allowed on the old dirt driveway, since it’s government property.

So I parked my car on the side of the road and started walking towards it.  Stopping every so often to put the tripod down and capture some frames.

As you can see in the photograph, the house has seen a lot in its day.  The walls are full of destruction, but there is so much beauty in it.

Standing there, you can feel the house saying “come inside and make more photographs” but at the same time, it’s visible from the street so it’s risky to go in.

So instead, I spent about 30 minutes photographing the house from many angles, and this is one of my favorites.

Thanks for reading and happy shooting,

Scott
