Cirque Du Boston explained

_SWI7935

If you recall, on September 17, I posted this photo (bottom of this article) which I titled Cirque Du Boston. I mentioned that I would explain why I chose to use the HDR technique to photograph the scene. Here is why… The morning of the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk it was pretty hazy and disgusting [...]

Get Over It 272/365

Nikon D5000, 1/4000, f1.4, 50mm, ISO 720

This photo was inspired by OK GO’s song Get Over It.  Not for what the song is about, but just for the part of the song when they sing “Get Get Get Get Get Over it”.  On a similar note.. When life hands you lemons, make some really good lemonade. “Lot of knots, lot of [...]

The Watchung Stables

Nikon D700, f/22, 5 Exposures, Promote Control

A recent job was to go photograph a memorial which a boy scout had created. The memorial is a the Watchung Stables so after I photographed the memorial I went to shoot other parts of the grounds. The sky was about to open up so I felt a little rushed to shoot for myself before [...]

Stormshooter 271/365

Motorola Droid, Retro Camera Plus, The FudgeCan

A Stormshooter is a Storm Trooper that doesn’t fight in the clone wars, but is a war photographer. Yes, I made it up but come on. Pentax put out a white camera so I could not resist.

The Dangers Within

Nikon D700, 5 Exposures, 2 EV, f/22, ISO 100, Promote Control

Inside and straight through to the other side.  This was a fun HDR to process.  After creating the image I decided to try something a little different than what I usually do.  I went for more of an effect than anything else.   Using OnOne Software’s PhotoTools, I added a preset which created a slight [...]

Torn up 270/365

Nikon D70s, 1/125, ISO 200, f/1.4

Rusty doors are fun to photograph, don’t you think?

Towards the high line

Nikon D700, 5 Exposures, Photomatix, OnOne Photo Tools

This is the first HDR photo I’ve processed from my day in New York City with Brian Matiash.  This also happens to be my least favorite from the day.  I can not wait to share the rest!  I used Photomatix 4 Beta 10 in the de-ghosting and processing.  Then in Photoshop I used OnOne Photo [...]

The force is strong 269/365

Nikon D700, ISO 100, 70mm, f/2.8, 1/200

Melissa purchased this product over the summer as a prize for a kid at the camp she where she was working.  She never had a chance to give it to the kid before camp ended so I now have the opportunity to photograph it over and over.  Eventually I will donate it to goodwill.

Simply Chelsea Ice 268/365

Nikon D700, 24mm, f/6.3, 30 Sec, ISO 100, 10 Stop ND Filter

Last night Brian Matiash and I were shooting around Chelsea in New York City and we both decided to shoot this scene.  It was just perfect at sunset.  The 10 stop neutral density makes for the stunning ice effect with the water.

Edge of the canvas 267/365

Nikon D700, 60mm, ISO 100, f/2.8, 1/25

I love dramatic lighting. I also love macro photography. It’s a great combination.
